The Cursing of Jaya and Vijaya
Maharaja Yudhishthira inquired from Narada Muni as to why Sisupala had merged within the body of Sri Krsna. Sisupala was a blasphemer. Maharaja Vena was also a blasphemer but he went to hell. Why didn’t Sisupala also reach the same destination as King Vena.
Śiśupāla and his brother Dantavakra were continuously blaspheming the Lord from before they could speak properly. So how is it that they both were awarded the benediction of merging into the body of the Supreme? Although the pure devotees do not aspire for such liberation, still they are perplexed by the unlimited mercy of the Lord unto these two envious souls.
Narada Muni then began explaining Maharaj Yudhishthira in the presence of all the Kings and Brahmanas, who Sisupala and Dantavakrawas in the previous lives.
Sisupala and Dantavakra were formerly to associates of Lord Narayana. They were the gatekeepers to the entrance of Vaikuntha. One time while they were on their dutiful service, they were approached by four young boys. These boys were the four Kumaras, the sons of Lord Brahma. Although they were in the body of young children, they were actually very old, nurture pure devotees of the Lord.
After passing through six gates, the four sages came to the seventh gate. There they met the Jaya and Vijaya. The two gatekeepers could not fully understand the devotion of the four kumaras and therefore stopped them from entering Vaikuntha.
Becoming angry, the four brahmacari sages, who only wore loincloths, cursed the Jaya and Vijaya that they fall down to the material world and take birth in the family of sinful demons.
As the Visnu’s gatekeepers were falling from the Vaikuntha to the material world, the compassionate devotees of Lord Narayana, called out to them, showering them with blessings, that after three births, they will return back to their original position as the gatekeepers of Viakuntha.
Lord Krsna has six opulences in Full, Beauty, Strength, Knowledge, fame, renunciation, wealth. Every now and them, Lord Krsna exhibit these opulence. What is the point of having All-Strength if you not going to use it? So every now and them Lord Krsna would descend as a Avatar in order to exhibit this opulence’s. At the same time He would re-establish the real principles of religion and teach the world unprecedented lessons.
Jaya and Vijaya entered the material world as the sons of Diti. The eldest son was Hiranyakashipu and his younger brother was Hiranyaksha. After that birth, they took birth as Ravana and Kumbhakarn. When Lord Rama annihilated them, they took their final birth as demons, Sisupala and Dantavakra. When Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared 531 years ago, Jaya and Vijaya made a special appearance as Jagai and Madai. In this incarnation, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu they received love of God.
When Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu took sannyasa, he stayed in Sri Jagannath Puri for 18 years. The devotees of Bengal used to come annually during the Ratha Yatra festival. But Sri Gadadhara Pandit could not handle the separation from Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. By the Lord’s mercy Gadadhara Pandit was allowed to stay in Puri. Gadadhara Pandit stayed Tota Gopinath and everyday He would recite Srimad Bhagavatam. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was very fond of the pastimes of Dhurva Maharaja and Srila Prahlada Maharaja. Mahaprabhu would come to the garden of Tota Gopinath temple and listen to Gadadhara Pandit. He listen to the pastimes of Dhurva Maharaj and Prahlada Maharaja 100 times.
