“He that was rewarded with the benediction that he wouldn’t die had met death”
After hearing the divine instructions of Sri Prahlada, The sons of the demons began transforming themselves in worshippers of Lord Visnu. This sudden transformation was noted by the two sons of Sukracaya and they became a bit afraid. They immediately went to the Hiranyakashipu and reported their compliant.
Like a snake been trampled, Hiranyakashipu anger grew. He called for his son. The mild and peaceful Prahlada approached his father, who eyes were red burning with anger.
The demon with trembling voice that shook the universe questioned his son. He wanted to know by whose power he defies his orders. Prahlada explained to his father that he gets the power and strength from the same person as he does- Lord Visnu. Lord Visnu is giving everyone, even Lord Brahma the strength to carry on the universal functions.
Hiranyakashipu, The original atheist challenged his son, saying that he speaking of a Supreme Controller, who is all-pervasive. But where is He? Pointing to a pillar nearby, Prahlada’s father asked him if, His Lord is all-pervasive, was He in the pillar.
Sri Prahlada looked at the pillar and with devotion in his eyes saw the Supreme Personality wink at him. Turning again to his father, Prahlada tried to convince that Lord Visnu was certainly everywhere, including the pillar.
Hiranyakashipu grew even angry and picked up his sword to severe the head of his first born child. Along the way he fisted the pillar with his bare hands. As the pillar shattered a strange and unusual sound came out. No one in the court yard could pin point the source of the sound.
Only to prove the words of his devotee, Sri Prahlada, were unmistakenly true, the Lord manifested a form that was never seen before, not even by Luxmidevi. The sound of a lion’s roaring emerged from the pillar, creating fear in the hearts of Hiranyakashipu and demon army, just as lion creates terror in the heart of a deer with its roar.
Still unable to comprehend the source of the roar, Hiranyakashipu saw the most terrifying beast. Keeping the words of Lord Brahma intact, The Lord of Prahlada Maharaj, appeared in form of Half Man- Half Lion.
“Hiranyakashipu studied the form of the Lord, trying to decide who the form of Nrsimhadeva standing before him was. The Lord’s form was extremely fearsome because of His angry eyes, which resembled molten gold; His shining mane, which expanded the dimensions of His fearful face; His deadly teeth; and His razor-sharp tongue, which moved about like a dueling sword. His ears were erect and motionless, and His nostrils and gaping mouth appeared like caves of a mountain. His jaws parted fearfully, and His entire body touched the sky. His neck was very short and thick, His chest broad, His waist thin, and the hairs on His body as white as the rays of the moon. His arms, which resembled flanks of soldiers, spread in all directions as He killed the demons, rogues and atheists with His conchshell, disc, club, lotus and other natural weapons.”
Srimad Bhagavatam 7.8.19-22
Hiranyakashipu still adamant that he cannot be killed picked up his club and rushed towards the Lord like a moth flying into fire. The blackish body of the demon immediately was covered by the glaring effulgence emanating from the body of the Lord. The king of the demons attacked Lord Nrsimhadev with his club, striking the body of the Lord, but the almighty Deity just brushed him away
Nrsimhaadev would catch demon and then allowing him to escape death for a few minutes, just as Garuda plays with a snake. When the demigods, who were hiding out of fear for Hiranyakashipu saw that Lord Nrsimhaadev had released the demon, they became disturbed in consciousness.
To re-sure them of their safety, when the time had reached twilight, (the conjunction of day and night), Lord Visnu, in this ferocious form got hold of Prahlada’s father, standing in the doorway, (which is not inside or outside), placed him on His lap, (which is not any land, or sky), Keeping the benediction of Lord Brahma intact, Lord Nrsimhaadev ripped apart the abdomen of Hiranyakashipu with his nails, (which is not any weapon). On this day the first heart surgery was done, as the Lord ripped out the heart of Hiranyakashipu and threw it aside. He that was rewarded with the benediction that he would die had met death due to the offenses to Lord Krsna’s devotees. Taking the demon’s intestines garland Himself, then turned to the solider of demon race. After finishing them off and they was no one to challenge the Lord, The Lord sat down on the throne of Hiranyakashipu. Still breathing of anger, no one dared approach Lord Nrsimhadev.
